Concept | “VILA NAIÁ - a little hotel full of style located in a paradise in the southern part of Bahia”

Vila Naiá hotel is located in an area of 50.000 m2. It reproduces the delight and charming atmosphere of fishermen village, and also revering Corumbau beach in the southern side of Bahia. Established in 2004, Vila Naiá is a unique inn.

Idealized by its owner Renata Mellão and designed by the architect Renato Marques.It conjugates the rustic simplicity of Corumbau with the refinement of an international class hotel. As suggested by the name, Vila Naiá intends to reproduce authentically the environment of local village. After twelve years observing the region and interacting with the surroundings Vila Inaiá nowadays provides its guests a unique experience.

In front of Corumbau beach, close to an area of ecological preservation [RPPN - Reserva Particular do Patrimônio Natural (Private Reserve of Natural Resources)] and protected by a spit wood and palm trees, Vila Naiá is a particular place among few in Brazil

Promoting Local Sustainable Development

The expression “Sustainable Development” was formally presented to the society in the Report “Our Common Future”, document produced for the World Commission on Environment and Development and published in 1987.
As proposed in these report, sustainable development implies meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Despite some remaining debates, mainly in the academic field, around the potential and limits of the idea, sustainable development and sustainability became a strong reference for governments, policy makers, international community and organizations.
Since its foundation Vila Naiá Hotel have been working according sustainability principles, driving its activities and services with environmental prudence, social responsibility and local economic development and proving that sophistication, art and leisure can be part of sustainable development.

Ecological Preservation

Corumbau´s beach, in the South Bahia, is located in a region of great environmental significance with two Public Ecological Reserves and a Fishing Reserve.
More than prevent impacts to these ecosystems, Vila Naiá contributed with a pioneering project to improve the environmental protection in the area creating a private conservation unit, called in Brazil “Reserva Particular do Patrimônio Natural”, with 50.000 m².

Environmental Education

Environmental Education
There is an Environmental Education Center in the hotel, including a dedicated space for local students and visitors; production of local species of plants an ecological trekking.

Green Building

The hotel was designed to minimize potentials interferences in ecosystems and the local landscape. The rooms and spaces incorporated concepts and techniques used for the local fishing community, allowing reuse of construction materials.
The gardens and open spaces uses essentially native species, reducing impacts on the natural landscape and on natural ecosystems with the introduction of exotic species.
New buildings and the maintenance procedures prioritizes the use of non toxic materials, and efficient equipments in terms of water and energy use.

Clean energies

All energy use in the hotel is based on renewable energy. Besides de electricity provide by the local energetic company, the hotel uses wind and photovoltaic energy sources provide by its own equipments.

Waste Management

The waste management program guarantees environmental sound treatment and destination of the hotel waste and includes minimization, recycling, reuse and biological treatment.

Green Procurement

In 2007 the hotel started a pioneering program of green procurement, prioritizing the purchases of environmental friendly products, preserving the health of its guests and collaborators and the local environment.

Opportunities to Local Communities

More than 80% of the work places provided by the hotel are destined to people of the local community that receive specific training and qualification to work in the hotel.
Vila Naiá also promotes a permanent action organizing the local community in social and economic terms.
One of the initiatives in this way is the organization of weekly event, called “Feirinha”, where local community commercializes and exchanges familiar production of food, fisheries, vegetables and fruits.

Environmental Management System

Aiming the improvement of its environmental performance, the hotel is now implementing an environmental management system, based on ISO 14.001:2004 standard and intents to obtain a third part certification in the middle of 2008.
